Hi, and welcome to the circus ... Ok, not really.
Tonight we had our first trophy competition of the season. The Jan Reilly Trophy.
Now Jan was a bit of a party animal who also loved to travel, before some trick of fate decreed that her sun should no longer brighten our skies.
Many moons ago, she started up this blog page, you can still catch her witterings by checking out the PubOffy posts.
Now our competition is dedicated to her love of travel.
After much nagging we managed to secure a good turnout (sorry Kev, I didn't get yours in time) 51 images. Many steam trains, a few boats and some planes too.
Our adjudicator for the evening was a certain Simon Shore, (no, not that one) This judge is down/up from Cambridge. A newbie for our club. He did quite well really, even giving one of my efforts such a good enough mark, that I went and re-inflated his tyres (if you believe that, I got some genuine Dodo eggs for sale) His comments and compliments far outweighed his complaints and critisisms. The scoring perhaps a tad on the low side, but in our house, we do ask the judges to mark out of ten, which rather pushes them into a narrow window of marks! There were a few marks under six. But then again, do we want placation or words of advice on how to improve our hobby?
With all our chatting and the tea break, 51 images doesnt give the judge much time to kiss, slap, kiss our efforts, but Simon handled it admirably. Hopefully, he might consider coming back to us in the future, to once again, break our little hearts.
Ok, down to the nitty gritty, with the majority of scores coming in from a five up to eights. He did however hold back nine images, all of Tony's (who invited him back to the club ... ) & one each from Chris, Steve, Rob, Kev & Nick.
(Can I have a drum roll please)
Ok, Rob, Kev and Steve all got a nine each for their pictures,
then two of Tony's images secured nine ana halfs ... and
the remaining four images all got tens.
we pushed him for a one two three ...
Tony's MiaoMan deservedly took first place.
Tony's Sahara took second place
Nick's Going Underground snagged third place
and Chris's Transport Command grabbed a fourth
Thanks Simon, a really good job.
Thanks to all those who sent in images & entered the competition
Without you, it gets dull
Thanks to all for reading this far.
Now for the winning entries (in no particular order)
