Onyx is Black

Onyx

Hello peeps, long time no see.

Happy New Year & I hope Santa bought you some of what you desired.

Well, we've got the new year up and running with our first PDI (third one of the season but first of the year, if that makes sense)

The theme for this one was Country Life and boy, did we have some diverse topics. Aerial shots from Chris, foreign views from Tony, chilly photos from Rob, tractors, sheeps, horses, hounds & country piles.

We had the wonderful Peter Norris down from Sudbury to stop any infighting amongst the members. 59 images. Thats a lot for a two hour show, especially the way the members can chat during the tea break. I might have to limit us back to the three shot rule. Watch any future compy rules.

So ... numbers

Scores ranged from a couple of sixes thru to a ten with the majority in the seven ana half to eight ana half range. Peter held back eight images, three from Rob J, two from Tony and one each from Colin, Chris and Nick.

These were some of the words used to describe what we put up on the screen.

Chris's Otter - Oh so sharp, a good frame filling shot.

Colin's Country Estate - Detail in the house is good, horse maybe not so much, but none the less, a lovely subtle view.

Nick's Ingleborough Bridge - great position, strong rocks, good depth of field.

Tony's Paddy Maintenance - Something a bit different, like the way you've caught the people doing what they do, love the way you take us from person to person through the image. Great storytelling.

Tony's Fieldworker - The strength of the picture is the person and her reflection. It's strong and unique.

Rob's Misty Dedham - wonderful, great shot, love the mist and the foreground.

Rob's Dedham - Strong shot, timing is brilliant with a strong sky. All the components are there, foreground, middle and distance.

Rob's Trees @ Dawn - great time of day, good depth of field, full of atmosphere.

Now the bragging rights ...

Rob's Trees @ Dawn - 8.5

Nick's Ingleborough Bridge - 9

Chris's Otter - 9

Tony's Fieldworker - 9.5

Rob's Dedham - 9.5

Colin's Country House - 9.5 and third place overall

Tony's Paddy Maintenance - 9.5 and second place

And top of the tree

Rob's Misty Dedham, first place and the only ten of the evening.
