Abstract
representing ideas in geometric and other designs, not in the form of nature ... so it says in my dictionary!
Hah, you should have seen some of the images we put up before the judge!
Oh Yeah, the judge
presiding over us tonight was Mr. Howard Mousley, all the way down from Manningtree. He has darkened our doorstep before and we obviously like him because he got invited back. He explained that he didn't do holdbacks, that he would score them as he went along.
So, we was up and running.
I had dropped the total images/person down to three, the last two competitions have run slightly over and it doesn't feel right to hurry the judge. so we had a more relaxed evening, and the competition was over by ten to ten, giving the judge an early start back home, and us a chance to look at our images, explaining what we were after.
Scoring was bloody good, ranging from a six (for something he felt had failed) up to multiple tens. It averaged out as 86/100 across the 45 images. not bad at all.
I'm glad I wasn't judging coz this lot have a warped sense of humour, and it shows in their artwork. We had Colour & B&W, Buildings & Bubbles, Trees & Tiles, Twists & Turns, and the judge explained where he thought we had got it right, and where we might make it better ... not a whole lot better, looking at the results, but I have to say he seemed to show a preference for bold colours.
Kev was chuffed coz by tea break he was already sitting on two tens.
We ended up with twenty shots getting 9 or better
twelve getting 9 ana half or better
and eight shots getting a ten ... not a bad turn around.
Muttering in the room afterwards was that everyone had enjoyed the challenge, the stretching of their thinking caps, and the pushing of photographic skills beyond our normal comfort zones!
OK, lets get down & dirty now
Val, Rich, Jose & Cheryl all grabbed a ten
Kev (all ready mentioned) got two tens, as did Steve.
We badgered the judge for a first, second and third and after going through the tens a few times he came up with
In third place, Kevin with 'Man in the Mirror' which the judge said he loved the way the mirrors took us to eternity, the colours were great and the inclusion of the photographer inspired.
Second up was Steve with his 'The Greeting' this is subtle, it gives the impression that the combatants don't want to be known. It's intriguing and definitely thinking outside of the box.
And in First place, Steve again with 'After Rothko' who is Rothko, the judge asked, probably checking out we knew who we were talking about, This is a great piece of imagination, it makes me think, such a pleasing image, the more I look the more I see
So, congrats to the winners
Thanx to the Judge
& I'm gone.
