Wowser

Long time no see.

Hokay, it’s good to be back.

Tonight’s word is brought to you to tell you what we’ve been up to.

We had our second competition of the season.

T’was a print competition, yeah we still do prints here.

Our judge for the evening was David Portwain.

Our subject was People at Work. We had 42 prints up there for David to peruse.

Quite a good turn out really

It was a lively evening with plenty of banter back & forth between us & the adjudicator.

I like to think that a David is happy coming here, if he comes much more we’re gonna have to start charging him!

Scoring, well I hope that our members take on board what he said.

It may have been cold (yeah, I got a five too) in places, but it did come with sage advice on why it didn’t make the grade in his eyes.

Simple things like depth of field (you don’t need those backgrounds that sharp)

Lighting (the interesting bit is too dark)

Subject matter (where is the worker?)

Composition (the interesting bit is in the bottom quarter of the photo, that’s a lot of wasted space)

& the mounts. In too many cases, the mount was brighter than the subject, very distracting.

Huh, sounds like us lot need to head back to photo school …

But, having said that, he also kept back twenty images to see again, so we must have got something’s right.

Come the second round of marking and he’s wheedled it down to six images held back again. Two images from Colin & Graham, one each from Rob & Nick.

We’re all sitting on tenterhooks

Nick’s Sax player … 9

Graham’s Full Steam Ahead … 9

Graham again with Saw Point … 9

Oooh … the tension is building now

Will it be Rob or his Father in Law …

Rob’s awesome Movements gets a ten and third place

Colin’s Learning from the Master … another ten and second place

Ta ta ta

Colin’s Concentration gets a ten and top spot.

Well done mate, he says grudgingly (damn geezers already offered to give me lessons)

When I get all the images together, I’ll put the winning entries up

Watch this space in the meantime

Byyyyyyeeeeeeeee

Hi, Tonight we was entertained by David Lambert. We started off slowly, our machine didn’t want to play any sort of PowerPoint Show. A lot of sweating, swearing and making a promise to the machine tha
