Let's start as we mean to go on.
I'm sorry, I missed a couple o weeks
Firstly, there was Colin's weird holiday in the depths of winter, to the Shetland Isle. I was feeling the chill just looking at the photos. His shots on this stark land evoked, not only coolness but desolation. Then we got to the real reason for his visit. The 'Up Helly Aa' celebration to mark the end of the Yule season. We were treated to the largest of the twelve displays within the Isles, and the photos and talk that went with it, helped us all to understand this Viking/Pagan ritual.
Dunno bout you lot, but that seemed a great idea for a booze up.
How cold was it again?
Last week was a bit of a filler week, so we decided to bring a little sunshine into our drab and dreary lives by having a no holds barred, summer festival.
This Week David and Betty took us up to the Highlands for a look at the West coast of 'Sunny Scotland' Well I saw plenty of rainbows, so assume there was sunshine.
Having said that, David certainly showed us that just because its raining, it doesn't mean you have to put your camera away. Going up in October is certainly brave, but the Autumnal colours, Snowy mountains, the bracken, the raging rivers and falls, all went together well to show you don't have to travel to the America's to get great scenery. Its all on our doorstep, or should that be rooftop (and talking of roofs, I think you might have overdone the red one)
Anyways, Thank you Betty & David for an entertaining evening. I'm an East coast Scotland fan myself but this certainly made it look attractive. Now where did I put them oilskins?
This is a great postt
