Well, naturally, it’s difficult for me to report on my own evening. I think it went down well, there were positive comments coming my way and everybody stayed to the end so it couldn’t have been that awful.

It was a pretty full house and our previous chairman even brought his wife! The talk followed our trip from Shanghai to Sydney to Mirboo to Hawaii to San Francisco and home. I had altered the general talk format to running short videos of each place instead of the normal presentation, each preceded by my reading from my

holiday journal. This was because the thing was only finished that morning and I simply didn’t have time to write the usual ‘aide memoirs’. It seemed to go down OK but did take us over our time slot - again. Kev was devil’s advocate and kept me informed of reactions from the ‘audience’.

Initially, the inbuilt audio of the projector was much too loud and those next to it wished they weren’t. Fortunately, our esteemed protectionist Nick knew how to fix it, retrieved the remote from the case and calmness reigned from then on. Hopefully, someone else will write things from the alternative point of view as I was hunched over my laptop, panicking quietly and hoping against hope that things would go according to plan.
